Burge Plantation: Fun with the Beauty Dish

These are the first of many new images I’ve taken with my new beauty dish.  This is my family at Burge Plantation, a hunting club in South Georgia.  My brother is the one  holding the pheasant.  It was hard for him NOT to smile in the photo.:)

Hey 2012!

And here we are… 2012!!!  Wahooo.  Before we get too far into the new year we MUST consider where we have been in 2011!  This is my favorite blog post of the year.  It is so wonderful to reflect and look back on my work and life, because as an artist, your life is your work and inspiration could come at any moment.  This year has been so FULL!  Lots of LOVE, BABIES, more LOVE and more BABIES! Reed is now a 13 month old scampering boy.  That just blows my mind.  Really the whole process is crazy, how they grow and are born into this crazy world.  I wish we could remember this experience as adults.  We would either be kinder or totally freaked out.  Anyways… like I said there have been lots of changes.  I have learned (…am still learning) how to be a mom and juggle a business at the same time, but I feel more fulfilled, inspired and driven than ever before.  Reed has brought so much joy into our world, and I have loved understanding and seeing that same joy in the kids and families I have photographed this year.

There were many awesome weddings this year as well!  I was so fortunate to take part in a few destination weddings in some AMAZING locations like the Virgin Islands and Oregon.  My favorite part of a wedding is from the time everyone is getting ready to the time she walks down the isle.  The anticipation and energy surrounding the bride and groom is so wonderful.  And the photobooth…what fun we had!  I am currently seeking a new name for the booth.  Let me know if you have any ideas!  The name needs to be more representative of what it really is since it really isn’t a booth, but more of a pole with a TV, light and camera attached to it.  It is really becoming it’s own beastly project.  I have such a vision for where we will take it…..wait and see!

And I must say… we LOVE our friends.  I think we have the best friends in the whole world!  We were so fortunate to travel to Wyoming, Washington, Oregon, and Chicago to see them.  And this year we got to show off Reed!!!

Photography has taken a real turn this year with one of my loves…my iphone!  I mean, Annie Leibovitz praised it on MSNBC!  I extremely heart instagram!  Reminds me of the old days with Polaroid and alternative darkroom processes. Miss that lots.

And I must give a special thanks to Annie Griffin Collection for bringing me on and changing up my routine.  They have helped me remember why I wanted to get into this business in the first place.  I LOVE fashion!  If you take a look at me you would be like WHAT?!?  I am probably the least hip and trendy person you will ever meet,  but maybe that is why I love it.  I am setting a New Years resolution to call out to all my fashionista friends for help, so just you wait!  But…yes, this is where I want my business to go!  So until I find more fashion clients keep a look out for my personal work to pick up!

This is a view into my stream of consciousness from last year.

So I conclude with my 2012 resolutions…how exciting!   I love setting goals (dorky like that)!

1. Do a personal shoot a month (fashion forward thinking!!!)

2. Get published online and in print

3. Understand Social Media Better and how to REALLY use it to gain more business.

4. Post more to facebook

5. Get a mentor

6. Learn more studio lighting and mixed lighting techniques

7. reduce my waste (food, energy and time)

8. move to somewhere we love!

9. find a community of artists

10. play and enjoy life more

YEA for 2012…oh yea so the Mayan’s…..just know it will all be good!

Fischer Family: Atlanta, Ga

Around the holiday season there are always lots of family portraits to be had.  It is always great to see families two years in a row, like the Fischer family!  They are all super playful and didn’t mind my crazy antics which included wagon rides around the yard, playing with bubbles and dad tossing the children in the air.  What fun!!  When shooting families with little ones, I always like to start the session in the kid’s room.  The children are more comfortable and you get a chance to see what their favorite toys are and how they interact with them.  Not to mention there is usually great natural beaming in through the window.  Such was the case with Henry and Charlie!  Aren’t they adorable!!!

City of Refuge: Atlanta, Ga

Last week I had the opportunity to participate in a dinner and entertainment evening at The city of refuge.  The city of refuge is a transitional campus for men, women and children who have come to a crossroads in their lives.  You can read about  their programs by following this link http://cityofrefugeinc.com/.  Like always the photobooth was a hit!
